Problem doing Windows Update Error 8024402C

I am getting the error 8024402C when I try to update the operating system. I
am using MS Windows Vista Ultimate. I installed over an up to date Windows
XP. The operating system is working well except for the sound. The system
tried to find the sound driver but could not. In the error message it told me
to do a windows update. When I do the update I get the error 8024402C. I have
tried the suggestions list in the link

and turned off the firewall to see if things would update but that has not
cured things. I have also check the system time because some suggested that
the time being wrong could cause the problem.

Can someone suggest something different?

Try this:

Do two things over all:

First:
1. Bring up an elevated (Administrator) command prompt

2. Execute the following commands sequentially:

a. fsutil resource setautoreset true c:\

b. cd /d %windir%\system32\config\txr

c. attrib -r -s -h *

d. del *

Second:

Start an elevated (Administrator) cmd.exe

Type: Cd %windir%\System32\SMI\Store\Machine
Type: Attrib –a –h –s *.TM*
Type: Del *.TM*

NOW REBOOT! After reboot updates should install
