Hi,
Another DVD issue resolved. I've a newly built system - Intel DG965ss mb,
SATA HDD, 2 AOPEN DVD-RW on IDE, 2G mem, VISTA HOME. Vista is loaded and
running but not without overlooking obvious blunder on my part.
Vista nor BIOS (flashed latest update from Intel) seemed to recognize these
DVD drives. Took an old Toshiba dvd drive to install Vista (AOPEN DVD drives
would boot and Vista install process would begin but would produce early
errors - partial disk read only.
This mb has only one onboard IDE connector to which DVDs are connected.
What is it ?
Found my solution. Use the IDE cable that came with the mb, it is different
density that older IDE cables. I would have used OEM supplied cable at first
but it is too short if drives are installed in the upper bays of mid-tower
case. I took a longer IDE cable from earlier IDE generation to reach upper
bays. This was the problem. Old IDE cable different than newer higher density
cables with same 40-pin connectors.
Use OEM cables throughout. Thank You
