Hey guys,

Okay I've searched thoroughly for this but could not find an aswer to
this problem I'm having on my laptop.

Config is:

HP Pavilion DV2530EA
2.1 years old system
Vista Home Premium OEM on it, SP2
2 GB RAM

I've had a BSOD twice now within the last month. After the first one, I
had to do a complete re-install as system files were damaged. I thought
it must've been some virus, but apparently it's not, as I've done a new
install and it happened again. This time so far it's seems ok after the
reboot though.

The funny thing is that the system running extremely well otherwise -
there are no other problems, slowdowns, freezes, hangs, nothing like
that.

Here's what I was doing just before the BSOD: (on both occasions, the
circumstances were EXACTLY the same!)

-I was surfing the net with IE8

-other programs running in the background: utorrent, Total Commander,
Notepad

As I say, both times I was doing the same: reading some forum in IE8
with exactly the same apps running in the background and then suddenly
bang!

I could not read the bluescreen message, as it moved on to the reboot
too quickly. The only things I caught were something like:

...check for updates for you BIOS...
...dumping physical memory to disk...

I don't know if that helps.

Here's the message I got after the reboot (unfortunately I don't have
the message or the dump from the first BSOD).

Problem signature:

Problem Event Name: BlueScreen
OS Version: 6.0.6002 2.0
Locale ID: 2057

Additional information about the problem:

BCCode: 1000008e
BCP1: c0000005
BCP2: 8c4c5830
BCP3: b9f4ea54
BCP4: 00000000

Files that help describe the problem:

C:\Windows\Minidump\Mini110809-01.dmp
C:\Users\atesz\AppData\Local\Temp\WER-42744-0.sysdata.xml
C:\Users\atesz\AppData\Local\Temp\WER2CBA.tmp.vers ion.txt

I've attached the minidump file zipped if you guys would like to have a
look at it.

Please let me know if you need anything else.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks very much.

Hi,

Thanks for your response.

But that ms page doesn't tell me much about the c0000005 exceptio
code. I've googled it to but I haven't found anything useful.

Any other suggestions

Try running this freeware program, BlueScreenView.
http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/blue_screen_view.html

It will load any dump files it finds and then list and highlight
any files it thinks may be causing the problem.

Wow great program.

I've made reports from it and attached them.

It's saying afd.sys and ntkrnlpa.exe caused the BSOD.

Please have look at the reports and let me know what you think.

I am posting to a public Microsoft newsgroup which will strip your
attachment so I can't see it. I do not subscribe to any forums.
I suggest you Google afd.sys and ntkrnlpa.exe and see what you can find.
Here's one I found describing BSODs with afd.sys:

http://social.technet.microsoft.com/...c-20fc813893fd

To stop your machine from rebooting on a BSOD go here:
Right-click Computer.
Properties.
Advanced System settings.
Startup and Recovery.
Settings.
Clear the box 'Automatically restart'.

Good luck.
