Problem following XP Home SP1 to SP2 Update

Following a not very smooth update to SP2 Home I'm now
trying to resolve the resultant problems. The update was done
with as MS CD, which worked ok on my laptop.

In the Event Log for Applications I am consistently seeing the
following, consecutive, entries every time I boot up, no matter
which of 5 user logon ids I use (inc admin):

Error 1 -
Source: Userenv, Event Id: 15108, User: SYSTEM
Windows was unable to load the registry. This is often caused by
insufficient memory or insufficient security rights.

DETAIL - The system has attempted to load or restore a file into
the registry, but the specified file is not in a registry file format.
for C:\Documents and Settings\NetworkService\ntuser.dat

Error 2 -
Source: Userenv, Event Id: 15102, User: NETWORK SERVICE
Windows cannot load the locally stored profile. Possible causes
of this error include insufficient security rights or a corrupt local
profile. If this problem persists, contact your network administrator.

DETAIL - The system has attempted to load or restore a file into
the registry, but the specified file is not in a registry file format.

Error 3 -
Source: Userenv, Event Id: 1515, User: NETWORK SERVICE
Windows has backed up this user's profile. Windows will
automatically try to use the backed up profile the next time this
user logs on.

Error 4 -
Source: Userenv, Event Id: 1511, User: NETWORK SERVICE
Windows cannot find the local profile and is logging you on with
a temporary profile. Changes you make to this profile will be lost
when you log off.

This set of errors occurs irrespective of which user id I login with
and also happens if I start in safe mode. The file referred to in
error 1, ntuser.dat, is present and dated 1/1/06, way before the
update, and these errors didn't appear then. I have installed all the
available new updates post SP2, and am running UPHClean to tidy
up any profile problems at logoff. I've also run an AV scan, Spybot,
Adaware and chkdsk. All are error free.

Can anyone offer any advice on resolving this, then I'll move on
to the next set of problems! Can I force the system to rebuild the
ntuser.dat prifle for NetworkService?

Many thanks,
David

Try asking in an XP newsgroup instead.
Asking in the WU NG about new symptoms in your OS after an update
is a bit like running down the street chasing a truck driver
hoping to get an answer to a question about the appliance
which was just delivered. ; )

Cross-post with your full post added to XP General for your convenience.

Good luck

Thanks Dave, but I don't see how. This article refers to XP Prof
and there's no explicit mention of the errors that I'm having. Given
the warnings in the article there's no way I'm going to just try
running the commands without understanding what they are doing,
even if they will run under XP Home.

Your event log records indicated "insufficient security rights"

This simply resets security setting back to default.
