Hi.

Installing KB922770 failed using Microsoft Update, with error code 0x663
according to the patch history.

I downloaded the standalone install binary, and later the .Net Framework 2.0
redistributable install binary.

As it turns out, when i try to patch, repair or remove .Net Framework 2.0 in
any way, the installer errors with the following error message (in all cases):

The following error occured during setup:

Patch package could not be opened. Verify that the patch package exists and
that you can access it, or contact the application vendor to verify that this
is a valid Windows Installer patch package.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what could be wrong?

The Windows-install on this computer was installed about a week ago using a
Windows-CD including SP2. .Net Framework was downloaded, installed and
patched as normal via Microsoft Update.

Thanks in advance.

Mistified,

See if this MSKB article provides any relief:

When you try to install a security update for the .NET Framework 2.0,
the computer may stop responding, or you may receive a "0x643" error code

Thanks for your attempt, but no, sorry, that doesn't help me any - As I
mentioend in the original post, I *can't* uninstall .Net Framework 2.0 - The
uninstaller simply errors out with the same identical error as the patch
install.

Thanks so much, this did the trick.

Used this utility to remove .Net Framework 2.0, installed it and patched as
normal from Microsoft update, no problems encountered.

Error: ".net framework 2.0 is either not installed on this system or is
corrupt"

Occurrence: SQL Server 2005 Setup

To resolve your corruption issue with the .NET Framework 2.0, please perform
the following fixes:

In this order:

1) Add/Remove Programs - Uninstall .NET Framework 2.0. Reinstall .NET 2.0
Framework.

2) If Solution 1 failed, please download and use the free Microsoft Cleanup
Utility, Select .NET Framework 2.0 to remove. Reinstall .NET 2.0 Framework.

3) Aaron Stebner's blog has a thorough cleaning procedure for the .NET
Framework 2.0.
