Problem Installing the lastest windows update software

So I go to the windows update site, and it tells me i need to install new
software because of improvements to the site. So I click Install now, it
downloads fine, copies the files fine, then it gets to regisitring:20%,
stops, and I get this:
"[Error number: 0x80070005]
Windows Update has encountered an error and cannot display the requested
page. You may find the following resources helpful in resolving the
problem..."
Can anyone help me solve this? I can't even get to the part where I want to
find out I need updates, because the software won't install.

NOTE: The Windows Update log for the V5 site is titled :
WindowsUpdate.log . The V4 log has a space between the s and the U.
The V5 log does not.
