Hi,

From a previous post by Ottmar Freudenberger:

<quote>
And what about the Program Files folder? Did you "tweak" Windows
and moved/changed the Program Files folder onto another Partition
than Windows is installed on? If you did, revert the movement and
KB896688 should install fine. As soon as you change/move the
Program Files folder again, WU and AU will offer you KB896688
again...

Sure? Proof it! ;-)
Start -> Run -> cmd -> cd %programfiles% resolves to which path?

Any anti virus software running in the background which hasn't
at least been unabled while downloading and installing the update?

It just checks (or tries to) if there's an IE7(private Beta) version
installed on the machine. Since the patch isn't intended for IE7
and would lead to a total mess on an IE7 machine, this has to be
checked. The check fails on your (and some others) machine. In most
cases the check fails due to a "moved" Program Files folder.

Bye,
Freudi
