My laptop computer has a problem and always display the battery icon even if
it is plugged on an AC source. Therefore, I can't install SP2 because it
cannot be installed on a computer running on the battery.

Is there any way I can fix this?

Have you checked your power options in Control Panel?

Are you sure that the laptop is running on battery? My laptop runs on mains
when mains is connected and only on battery when it is disconnected. I
guess you could force the situation and take out the battery, run it on
mains and install SP2.

The problem is that the connector for the AC adaptor stopped working so I
made a new plug on the battery connectors inside the computer. So actually,
the computer IS working on the battery but the battery itself is plugged on
the AC source.

Why didn't you put that in your original post?
Buy a new mains adaptor and dismantle the home brew.

<QP>
....to make sure that the power to the laptop will remain on throughout the
whole installation. The installer program enforces this requirement by
refusing to start the installation until it detects that AC power is
connected to the portable computer.
