for about 1 week now i have a problem installing this update. While it seems
installed in my computer(as i can see it has been installed in the windows
update list from the add-remove programs list), the windows update can't see
it and for that reason it has to be downloaded every time i check for new
updates. So i dont know if it has been installed or not!!Do you know about
this problem??Any help would be very helpful!!

I have the same problem. I have tried uninstalling and removing all
reference to KB923980 from the registry and all files from the HD, but it
tells me to down load and then will not install. I think that somewhere on
my HD there is a corrupted downloaded file which will not install. Does
anyone know what it would be named and where it should be?

Same here -- and it happens when manually trying to install this update,
too...error says cryptographic service is not running, yet cannot get it
to start, either (error 1058 -- service either disabled (it is not, as
best i can tell), or it has no enabled devices associated with it
(couldn't tell you -- have no idea!). RPC service is operating
properly, as best I can tell...exact error message when manually trying
to install is "Setup could not verify the integrity of the file
Update.inf. Make sure the Crytographic service is running on this
computer."

Event viewer error in System category for the Automatic Update is as
follows: "Installation Failure: Windows failed to install the following
update with error 0x8007f0da: Security Update for Windows XP
(KB923980)." Event type is "error"; Event ID is "20".

Any help with this issue would be greatly appreciated....

Try a search?

http://www.microsoft.com/communities...31b&sloc=en-us

(search with web interface to this newsgroup for
0x8007F0DA MVP 2006
)

Refers to

<title>You cannot install some updates or programs</title>
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=822798

which suggests you could have also found that suggestion
by a web search such as:

0x8007f0da "windows update" site:support.microsoft.com

via Live Search (which in fact happens to return only that article.)
