It seems after the last XP update I've been experiencing problems during the
boot sequence?? I have a Sony VIAO and the first screen comes up with the
VIAO logo but then when the Windows boot starts the screen goes blank and no
information is displayed! I can access the F8 screen but after selecting a
menu option the screen goes blank again?? I have to hard boot the computer
again to get out of the blank screen and after several hard boots the system
seems to clear and will run thru the boot sequence normally?? I am thinking
of restoring to a point before the last update but was first wondering if
anyone else has experienced this first and if a solution was found?? Haven't
hit up MS tech support yet either!
Help!! Thanks

I also have a Sony VAIO and encountered a different problem during the last
update... Every time I reboot and login, Windows Explorer abruptly crashes
with an error message indicating unable to "read" from a memory location. It
continues to crash over and over again as I close the error dialog boxes.

I restored the machine to previous dates with no effect. I've used MSCONFIG
to disable everything from loading, with no effect. But, it works fine in
Safe Mode.

The error dialogs give no clues; they indicate the problem is "unknown".

I'm nuts from searching Google and MS Knowledge Base. Seems like there are
many similar cases, but nothing seems to apply to my problem.

I never had any trouble with this machine until installing the Windows
Update released around November 8, 2005.

After restoring to a date before the update, the laptop is working fine. Then
I picked the updates that I wanted and haven't had a problem since. I think
the problem had to do with the MS security suite, which I tried before and
still get updates from it occassionally. I do not use it now and it might
have conflicted with my current security suite??
BTW I have XP on the laptop.
