I have just bought a new computer running Vista Ultimate in 32 bit.
I installed MS Money, v14.0.120.730 c2004 and I keep getting a box with the
following message:
"An update is available for your money software. To install this update, you
must be logged on as a member of the Administrators Group.
Log off windows and then log back on as a member of the Administrators
group. Restart the program to install the update. For more information see
windows help."
I have set up the computer so that I am an administrator and logged of and
then back on again, but the message still comes back on starting money.
Also I have tried to restore a money file backup that I transferred from my
old computer, which was running XP Home. The money program had updated itself
prior to saving the backup file. As this file contains my last years
accounts, I do need it to be restored.

Rightclick a shortcut to the Money program, and click 'run as administrator'

What you will need to do is let Money set up a new file for you (save your
current file safely somewhere). After your install and go thru the initial
steps to where it tells you to update, run the update. After you have run
the update you will have the same version of the file as you currently have
saved off. Then copy that file over replacing the one you have just
created.
Without this intermediate step you are mixing file versions.
