Problem with office settings

after installing Encarta i windows Vista and trying to change the settings i
word 2007, it goes to the default and doesn't allow me to change it...
Any comments???!!!!!

And what settings might that be?

like when I want to default the font size to 12 and font type to times new
roman, after restarting the office again it will go back to what it was
before even if i made it as the default settings.

sorry, maybe i wasn't clear enough, but what i meant is that it doesn't allow
me to make the changes it's all greyed out
