"?" problem redux

?Here's a new twist on the infamous "?" when using IE9 beta and WLM2011:

If I set my WLM to send using HTML for regular (not news groups) email. the
"?" NEVER appears at the beginning of the message

If I set my WLM to send using plain text, the "?" ALWAYS appears at the
beginning of the message.

I am sending this message using HTML (yes, I know that I'm not supposed to
do that in newsgroups). If the "?" appears, then I will know that it is
unique to newsgroup messages. If the "?" doesn't appear I will know that it
depends on email send format, either HTML or plain text.

Okay, what I see, with your two posts, is:

Plain text post has a leading question mark.

HTML post has no leading question mark.

I don't use WLMail, but AFAIK, a recent update fixed that issue. Your
WLMail version is:

15.4.3502.922

An up-to-date WLMail version should be:

15.4.3508.1109

Check in at Windows Updates.

Msft has yet to release any concrete info on WLM11-QFE1(xx.1109).

Fyi....I interpretted the non-Msft reports on QFE1(15.4.3508.1109) WLM was
patched to accomodate the IE 9 fix that is supposedly to be included in the
next IE9 release(beta or RC).

Which means the French site that reported it fixed(and picked up by the
balance of the National Esquire type Live sites) either got it wrong or it
was only fixed in the French version(seems unlikely that no one else in
Europe reported their version was fixed <g>)

i.e. 15.4.3508.1109 with current IE9 beta still produces the '?' (Byte
Order Mark) for most, if not the entire planet.

There are several sites (SoftPedia is one) that claim to be able to download WLM version 15.4.3508.1109. I uninstalled my version 15.4.3502.0922, then downloaded the later version from the SoftPedia site and guess what? It gave me the older (3502.0922) version. I then went directly to the Microsoft site and it said the 3502.0922 was the latest version and claimed no knowledge of the 3508.1109 version. Very strange to say the least!!!

Anyway, I have now proved conclusively (at least to myself) that the “?” is never present if HTML is used for sending and is always present if plain text is used for sending. This seems to be true for either news messages or ordinary email messages. I can live with this as most of my emails can be HTMLs.

I hear by the grapevine that MS will release IE9 final in March so the issue may become moot before long.

Winston,

I went to this site,

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/e...4-f7803987718c

which is the Microsoft download site for WLM 15.4.3502.0922. In the search
box, I typed in 15.4.3508.1109 and got a "not found" result but there was an
option to try other sources. That sent me to this site,

http://explore.live.com/windows-live...tials?os=other

and voila, it was the site for the Dec 2 WLM 15.4.3508.1109 update. I
downloaded it and I now have it installed. I just didn't dig deep enough
the first try.
