Problem with scanner and Windows Photo Gallery

My brother is having problems with his scanner and Windows Photo Gallery.

He has a Canon CanoScan N670U USB-powered flatbed scanner connected to his
PC, which is running Vista Home Premium. He has installed the latest Vista-
compatible drivers and software for the N670U, and has verified the
installation in the Scanners and Cameras Control Panel.

However, when he tries to scan an image into Windows Photo Gallery, the
scanner doesn't show up in the device list in the Import Pictures and Video
dialog (File > Import from Camera or Scanner...).

What's keeping the scanner from being recognized by Windows Photo Gallery,
and how can he fix this problem?

Thanks in advance.

This isn't the slickest workaround in the world, but it works for me:

I have the CanoScan Toolbox installed, and I assume your brother does, too.

When I press the Scan button on the scanner the Toolbox program opens. If
you click on 'Scan-1' you will see a dialog box with a setting called 'Link
scanned
images to' near the bottom.

Click 'Set...' and then navigate to C:\Program Files\Windows Photo
Gallery\WindowsPhotoGallery.exe
and click 'Open'.

Now when you click the scan button on the scanner the image will appear in
the
PhotoGallery application.

No, not ideal, but it works.

Not that I know of, but I'll ask him if he does.

Thanks, Don. I'll pass this on to him, and I'll keep this in mind when I
get my Canon LiDE 30 (which is basically the same as the N670U)
installed.
