Problem setting automatic update

I'm having a difficult time turning on automatic updates. I've tried several
different routs and nothing seems to be working. I've gone to services.msc
in the run tab and tried to turn it on but nothing. Is there a solution to
this problem?

System may be infected with malware "Vundo" and or friends
