Problem with sleep mode

I have windows vista home premium and have a problem with sleep mode.
When I try to put it into sleep mode ( I presume its sleep, the button under
help & support from the start button) the screen goes off as it should but
instead of shutting down, it thinks about it, then tries to re-boot but goes
to the options screen saying windows did not close down properly.

Any ideas?

Paul,

You might check 'reliability and performance monitor'/reliability monitor
for any hints as to what is going wrong.

If you hover over the button before clicking it will pop up a description of
what it is set to do (it can be set to do different things)
