I just downloaded and installed XP-Media Edition KB838358 on my Toshiba
laptop, thanks to a post here. After installing a "rollup" update from my
Toshiba XP disk, I went to the MS Update site and SP-2 started to
automatically install. I canceled this installation, and went on to
successfully install KB838358, plus two other updates. As I have too many
programs, that have problems with SP-2, I do not want to get it yet.
All has gone well, except that the Update-download/install symbol is now in my
systray and shows
"Downloading Updates 0%." No updates are being downloaded, and I assume that
this is a left over
artifact of the canceled SP-2 update. Just to make sure, I've turned Automatic
Updates to "Notify
of Updates." I've also left the machine on for several hours, just in case
there IS an update being
downloaded, but it stays at 0%.
My question, how can I remove this from the systray, and I assume the Startup
on XP-Media E? I've
looked through the Registry, but can't see anything that I can translate as
calling any automatic
update downloads. Any help would be appreciated.
TIA
Hunt
