Hi,

After I did the update of "Windows Genuine Advantage Notification
(KB905474)" and "Windows Defender Definition Update 1.14.1511.3 for BETA
Windows Defender (KB915597) "...on 6/27/06....

I am no longer able to disable my ethernet connection or enable my wireless
connection....any help on this is appreciated.
I know it was the updates because I did a system restore prior to their
install and it worked fine.

I guess I have three options....
1) Keep the laptop connected on the ethernet connection and based instead of
wireless.
2) go without both updates or just 1 (whichever one is making the problem.
3) anyone know of a fix...HELP ME MICROSOFT !!! Do I even need these
updates ? But the popup keeps coming up if I don't update them. Just bought
Windows XP Home so not fimiliar with it too much.

Thoughts ?? Help ???

Someone reported similar symptoms before, and it was eventually traced to
that person having third-party firewalls, anti-virus, or anti-malware active
while the 905474 update was being applied. I seem to remember it was
ZoneAlarm that was the culprit.

Please disable all third-party anti-malware and/or firewalls. If you
disable a third-party firewall, re-enable Windows Firewall to protect you
during the update. Restart Windows. Then run the update again. Restart
Windows. Does that fix the problem?

When you re-instate your third-party firewall, you might need to
re-configure special exceptions for system applications.
