Hi

I am having difficulty in completing a backup of my laptop using the Backup
and restore application.

I keep getting Access is denied (0x80070005) after a while.

Can anyone help?

regards John Boy

If you can do a backup from Safe Mode (F8 on restart), you should probably
try to reset your security settings.
HOW TO Reset Security Settings Back to the Defaults:

Hi Mark

Thanks for pointer, I will try out your suggestion later on.

I am busy trying to defrag my disk for the backup location.

File Backup fails with the following error: Access is denied.
(0x80070005)

This error occurs because the recovery partition is enabled for File
Backup or System Restore and is almost full. To work around this, do not
select D:\ as a backup source. Also, go to System Protection in Control
Panel and make sure that D:\ is not enabled for restore points.

Hi Koch

I do not have D enabled for restore points (only C)

Also I have tried the suggested solution but you cannot do a back in Safe
Mode using the back & restore application with Vista Ultimate

Hi Mark

I tried your suggestion but it appears that you cannot carry out the backup
operation
in Safe Mode with Vista Ultimate.

Any further ideas appreciated.

I don't think you can backup C on C, i.e., on the same partition, if you
know what I mean. From my understanding, it must be on either a separate
partition, an external hard drive, or removalable media. Perhaps one of
the Gurus here can clarify this.

Did I understand you correctly John Boy - you're trying to do a backup
using Vista's "Complete PC Backup"?

Hi Koch

I am trying to do a PC Complete Backup.

I have a external hard drive formatted in NTFS and my laptop has reconised
this with the drive letter I.

I cannot seem to get the operation to complete and keep getting the accessed
denied after about 10 mins

regards John Boy
