Problem with wallpaper positioning

I've got my display set to 1440x900, and am trying to use a 1024x768 image
for my desktop, so that there will be a blank, solid color frame on it to put
my icons on (I hate losing them in the design I have for the background). But
no matter what I select for the positioning, it stays stretched. I even tried
to use a 100x100 image, and it stretched it out as well. Anyone else have
this problem, and if so, what have you found to correct it?

If you notice, I said that it didn't matter *WHAT* I set the positioning to
(Center, Tile or Stretch), it stays stretched. And it does it with any size
image I try to use.

Oh, and if someone can tell me how to find out what version of Vista I'm
running, I'll be happy to post that here, if it helps any.

I had this problem but it resolved itself. Make sure you have all the
available updates and patches.

I've run the Windows Update in the Start Menu, and I have my computer set to
check for updates every night, so I don't think that's the problem. Any other
suggestions? Cause this is really annoying me.

Click the Start menu, find "Computer", right-click it and choose
"Properties".

Hold down the Windows key, and press Pause|Break.
