Problem with Windows Installer

Hi

I have Ultimate with 2 Gig RAM and a Core 2 Duo 2.6 CPU

I have a problem where a program I am trying to install does not get past
the Windows Installer part.

The install starts witth a "setup.exe" which asks for a serial number, which
I enter then it tries to run the .msi install file but I get an error
"Windows cannot open the specified device or file" I click on Okay and get
an Error 110 box.

Any ideas on how to fix this?

that is standard procedure when using Vista, and it makes no difference in
this case, I have also tried it with UAC on and off.
