Problem with Windows Live Mail 2009

Hello!

I've just installed the new version of Windows Live Mail (14.0.8050.1202)
and I'm not able to pass the Welcome Screen, the one that says 'Windows Live
Mail', the program stays frozen until I kill the process. I uninstalled the
old version before I installed the new one. I have zero viruses, trojans,
etc.. so I'd like to know how to solve the problem... BTW I use the web
installer, is there another option to do it? I'm using Windows XP SP3 up to
date, 1GB RAM, 40 GB HD.

Thx and Cheers

I face a similar problem and I'm now at the end of my tether!

WLM worked perfectly fine but today I updated it to Build 14 and it won't
start at all. I see the login screen immediately followed by the mail icon
appearing in the notification area. I right click on it to select 'Open
Windows Live Mail' but nothing happens. I can compose an email but cannot
send it.

So, I did all of the following in a futile attempt to solve the problem.
Nothing worked:

1. Uninstalled and reinstalled WLM
2. Uninstalled all Windows Live programs, deleted all Windows Live folders
under Application Data
3. Clean my registry with Uniblue Registry Booster 2
4. Reinstalled WLM
5. Added WLM to Windows Firewall exception list

I hope I don't have to resort to formatting my hard disk and reinstalling
Windows for it to work. That would be disastrous. I would gladly use Outlook
for all my Gmail, Yahoo and Hotmail accounts but I run Outlook through a VPN,
which drastically slows it down.

Is there any way I could revert to an earlier WLM version, perhaps?

No..the earlier version is no longer available on get.live.com and that site is now redirecting to Home.live.com

Since you've wiped out a fair share of pre-existing content(folders, registry, multiple uninstalls. multiple installs it is unclear
what condition your system is in.

Since you apparently can open WLM(you can create a message), does WLM actually have an email account setup ?

If so, you might wish to contact support.

Well, I'm going to try Vincent's procedure and see if it works. BTW is there
a standalone installer for the newest version of Windows Live Mail Desktop
availaible?

Thx and Cheers

sounds like a temp file issue. run a disk cleanup.

Please don't FrAnk! It's a terrible idea and I still can't get it to work.
Contact Microsoft instead.

Yes...
Go to download.live.com
Click download
Cancel the download when prompted to save the wlsetup-web.exe
Click Try Again
Save the full file wlsetup-all.exe when prompted

The direct link is also available on this blog entry
http://liveunplugged.spaces.live.com...90CA!389.entry

Look in the 'Links:' section
Full Version Installer (my preference)

[Totally OT & crossposted to WLMessenger newsgroup]

<rant>
Why does WLMessenger (application and Process) insist on loading when one
opens a spaces.live.com page?

After this happens, why does the (Task Manager) Process MSNMSGR.EXE persist
after exiting (closing) WLMessenger?

Why does exiting WLMessenger and ending the Process MSNMSGR.EXE then have
the affect of causing spaces.live.com pages to load much more quickly?

When does Wave 4 beta begin?! <eg>

So you can get the full "Live experience". <eg>

Closing msnmsgr.exe does not exit it.
To exit it you have to right-click Exit the WLMessenger icon
in the Notification Area of the Taskbar.

For the same reason that running iexplore.exe -extoff is so much faster.
BTW you can eliminate just the msmsg.exe extension using
Tools, Manage Add-ons.

Hmm... looks like I have found another way to get rid of it. RIES. <eg>

Hi,

Just to add, the "full experience" here is knowing the status of your contacts and the
ability to communicate with them via Messenger on each spaces page (as well as hotmail).

Debated use I suppose, I admit I've used it once or twice.
