Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool - July 2005 (KB890830) was installed
on my computer yesterday at 3 AM. The computer was then automatically booted.
It failed to boot up and in fact tried 250 times before I noticed it was
down. I tried to boot up in safe mode, but it failed to come up even in
command line mode. I tried to repair the installation with the install disk,
but the install disk failed to recognize that it was on the hard disk and did
not give a repair option. It did, however, tell me that there was another
operating system when I continued with the install. I aborted the install and
put in another hard disk.
I was then able to boot up by installing XP on the new hard disk. I then
examined the original boot disk and found that the WindowsUpdate.log
documented that the last thing that happened before the computer failed to
reboot was the installation of Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool - July
2005 (KB890830)
So far, I have been unable to do anything to save the installation on the
old hard disk.
Any suggestion?
