I have Vista Ultimate and am connected to Windows Small Business Server 2003
through a domain. I have two computers that this same issue is happening on.
Both computers are identical. When I begin windows, the sidebar does not
load properly. The space where the sidebar should be is slightly blurry and
the plus symbol and left and right arrows at the top appear. After giving it
a few seconds, I try to click on the sidebar and it says that the program is
not responding and if I want to wait or close it. If I close it and try to
reopen it, it does the same thing. In addition, Microsoft Word will not load
on either computer. Excel works fine. Outlook works fine, but if I try to
open an email with a graphic, it crashes too. It won't respond and then asks
if I want to close it. AutoCAD also doesn't work when this happens. This
leads to me to believe that something is not loading properly at startup
since so many seemingly unrelated things are occurring. The strange thing is
that if I reboot (it may work on the first reboot or it may take 10 reboots),
the computer will eventually load correctly and all the programs work as they
should.
This started happening on Aug 30 after I installed the following five
updates: KB933360, KB938194, KB938952, KB938979, KB939159. I have tried
uninstalling all five updates, but the problem didn't go away. On Sept 12, I
installed Update KB905866, so my computer is supposed to be up to date.
I have tried disabling Sidebar at startup, but that doesn't solve it. The
other programs still won't work and if I try to start the sidebar, the same
thing happens.
Thank you for any suggestions. It is a major hassle to have to spend 15-30
minutes rebooting my computer every time I turn it on.
