that doesn´t find the CD of the Microsoft Works. I have a notebook and I
don´t have the installation cds.
Does somebody know who is the start directory for this aplicattion.

Thanks!!

Download and *save* KB955428_en-US.cab
* NOTE: If you need the update in a different language then click
the drop down window next to 'Change Language' * and set it to the
language needed FIRST before downloading anything :
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...DisplayLang=en

Once the download completes close all open browsers and programs.
*Right* click KB955428_en-xx.cab and choose 'Extract All'. [xx
represents the language of the .cab file]

Either double click the file that is extracted or, right click and
choose Install to install KB9455428.

A question: I have WORKS 9, but KB955428 is not applicable to this release
according to the tech note. Is, in fact this release required and I should
follow the instructions? Or if not, how to I get rid of update constantly
prompting me for the update ?

The system should not have been offered KB955428 as, according to the
Security
bulletin, Works 9 is not affected.
Is the update being offered via auto updates or from Windows|Microsoft
Update ?

Sorry and thank you, but I have two machines and I was confused. The problem
machine DOES have works8 and the works9 machine is unaffected. My apologies
again. I have also resolved the problem with a phone call to MS support.
Basically:

1) This is a known problem
2) You have to access the .MSI file that only techs have access to
(according to support).
3) There is no cost to support provided you phone 866-727-2338
4) Chat didn't work at the time of resolution this morning
5) You could not download the KB955428 update manually and update as some
have suggested from the download section.

I was completely satisfied with the remote support and dissatisfied with the
problem resolution issue otherwise. I have posted in the other forum also.
Just which forum to post in is a mystery to me and how to find which is also
unclear.

Downloading the correct .cab file for KB955428, then right clicking it
and choosing Extract All, results in the required .msp being extracted
and by right clicking it and choosing Install or just double clicking
it, *should* get KB955428 installed.
Glad to hear that it's installed, Hike_Mike. As to finding information
on MS's site ... good luck. It's faster contacting tech support than
wading through irrelevant, outdated, or arcane fixes that are beyond the
scope of the Typical User. That's *if* one can locate KB articles using
the woefully inadequate search capabilities of the Knowledge Base.

You will note that the download of KB955428 'failed' in that it would not
start the download from the MS download site. Just why, I can't say. I did
not try to download all the components. To help others in case I was not on
the correct place, how about posting the link?

If the download would not start then 'something' was blocking it. The
installed antivirus\security suite\3rd party firewall\cookie\popup
blocker\3rd party toolbar could be the cause or there could be 'unwanted
guests' resident on the system that are preventing updating/downloading.

All of the KB955428_xx-XX.cabs can be downloaded from:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...DisplayLang=en

All one has to do is pick the correct language pack for the version of
Microsoft Works 8 that is installed, extract the .cab, then run the
resultant .msp inside the extracted folder.
