Problem in Windows update (Windows XP sp2)

Auto updating of windows xp has stopped and I don't know the reason. When I
tried manually it is not getting updated. The error being displayed is :
0X80072EE7.

I tried to modify host file in Windows/system32/etc folder. But could not
get any success in getting updates even after.

Please let have some solutions. Since I am not able to do updates, I am
deprieved of installing many a newly brought softwares. Including Norton
antivirus-2008, PDF Editor software etc.

0x80072F76," or "Error 0x80072F78" error message when you try to use the Windows Update
Web site or the Microsoft Update Web site

When searching for available updates on the Update site, you see the 0x80072EE7 error
