Problem XPProSP2 Genuine Advantage Tool Problems

Hi there.

My PC was up to date till yesterday with all current patches -
including the "genuine" tool.

Today I had to revert to an older (Nov 05) version (Disk Image) of the
PC due to some other software issues.

As usual I opened windowsupdate to reinstall all patches since last
Nov, but windows update firstly wants to install the genuine tool and
fails. Due to this I cant get all other patches downloaded. There is no
particular error message, just the update box indicating that the
genuine tool was NOT installed.

I tried to rerun the genuine tool manually from the MS site and it went
OK, but did not hsolve the update probs


any ideas welcome ...

Yeah, I am sick to death of Windows sodding updates and WGA messing up
perfectly good systems. Been fixing update problems for over a week
now by a variety of methods all listed here somewhere or other. There
is a Reg Fix and links to a WGADiag Tool which works for some but not
others. Dig about above a bit you will find the fixes. Looks like if
WGA actually installs then the WGADiag2 tool will fix updates most of
the time but not in all cases.

Meanwhile you want a fix that does work giving you time to sort your
machine whilst you figure out which particular pot pourri of WGA /
Updates problem you are afflicted with?

OK this site uses Firefox and bypasses WGA but other than that it
looks and runs like M$ Updates used to when it worked mostly - oh and
its probably not strictly legal.

Direct downloads of all windows critical updates

Use Firefox or Opera for both the above links especially the software
patch site (pop unders). You may have a bit of trouble getting on
these sites they are real busy at the moment for some reason?
