I'm in a pickle: I've just downloaded quite a few updates (stupidly didn't
notice which) and now I cannot access the Internet from my computer (I'm at
work sending this message) What could have caused this? I tried looking to
see which updates where just installed to try and download them but it's not
possible to tell which were te recent additions.

I do not show service pack 2 as something I have installed yet - could some
of these updates be requring this? And do I contact Microsoft or my Internet
provider about this? (And WHICH telephone numbert at Microsoft??)

Thanks,

Hi Patricia,

See if the information in this MSKB article helps you resolve the problem:

"After you run Microsoft Windows AntiSpyware (Beta), you have
network-related problems, or you receive an error message"
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/892350

another option would be to d/load and run winsockxpfix:
http://www.spychecker.com/program/winsockxpfix.html

Thanks for the quick response, Patti. I'll try what you suggest when I get
home. If it looks like I need the Winsock XP Fix, can it be downloaded to a
disk or USB device and then transferred to my computer (since I can’t access
IE)?

You're welcome :-)

Yes, the WinsockxpFix file is approx. 1.4 Mb, so it should easily fit on
floppy or USB device in order to then transfer it to the "problem" computer.
