I have automatic downloads enabled on my computer. I installed all critical
updates from last Tuesday. Following restart I couldn't access my programs,
get my documents to open, etc. I used system restore and things were fine.
Downloaded and installed all the updates again, and again after restart had
the same problems. I'm sitting on 12 critical updates and have no ideas
which ones I should download and install and which ones I shouldn't and what
fixes are available for those downloads which are corrupting my system.

I'm running XP pro and Office 2003 applications. Help!!!

Hi,
I experienced the same problem and did the same thing you did. I to am
sitting on critical updates, but will not install anything from Microsoft
until I get some answers. Have you had any luck fixing the problem or
getting information on fixing it.

Problems in Windows Explorer or the Windows shell after you install security
update MS06-015
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/918165
Microsoft Security Bulletin MS06-015

Vulnerability in Windows Explorer Could Allow Remote Code Execution (908531)
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sec.../ms06-015.mspx

For those who have Hewlett Packard's Share to Web Software, there are two
registry patches to choose from (run either one or the other) not both:

Ottmar Freudenberger has made a patch available at:-
http://patch-info.de/WinXP/Downloads...are-To-Web.zip
(Note this is a Zip file and will need to be extracted. It contains a REG file
which needs to be imported into the registry)
or
Kelly has made a patch available at:
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm
Line #383 - this is a vbs file and instructions on how to use such files are at
the top of the page.

I just tried manually downloading the updates (7 of them) on another
computer. My programs come up -- very slowly. However, I cannot save a Word
document under "SAVE AS". I lose any work I've done.

Seems like a few of us are having the same issue. No response has been
helpful thus far.

Hi Bill: That sounds similar to my problem, only I have Windows XP home and
2003 Office Pro. I can get to (and open) my documents by searching the
folders from My Computer but not from Word or Excel (& can't attach files to
emails). I haven't found a system restore date that I can go back to yet.
I'll let you know if I find a fix. This is really annoying!

Similar problem here. XP Home, Office 2002.

Couldn't get my C: drive to expand when selecting from an application or the
My Computer icon.

I used Restore to get back my system back to the state before the updates
and things seem to be back to normal.

Waiting on some type of debugged update before I try to install again.
