problems after installing sp2 & sp1

I installed xpsp2 and have problems after restarting I get a mesege saying
(drive not ready system is halted. I got advised to uninstall sp2, I did it
and everything was back to normal.after a while my automatic update had the
xpsp1 ready to install so I did it. now I have the same problem even after I
removed from the add/remove feature. I can use my computer only on safe
mode.any help it will be appresiated

Sounds like a bad hard disk drive.
