Problems after installing SP2 (DVD) over XP Pro

I installed Vista SP2 (from MS CD) over XP Pro and it's become a freekin'
nightmare. Don't mean to sound nasty. But man-oh-man it's not been pretty.
It took 7 hours to install and then another 24 to get my system to boot
without errors successfullly, and it still does boots with errors, half of
the time. Rebooting is no quick process with Vista. I'm almost crippled. I
overinstalled my existing Op Sys because I have so much software ... and you
all know it takes forever to reinstall everything.

Another problem ... everytime I click on anything ... and I mean anything, I
get a "windows install" window that displays. What is it doing?
At first I thought it was trying to access my behaviour and install
on demand, but it doesn't stop. I just installed three days ago. This
"windows install" screen has displayed probably a thousand times ... and
continues to display when I click something. All the updates are already
installed, so it can't be updates.

Any thoughts or suggestions.

I want my system to work and don't mind testing and working through
this (I know it's not perfect ... it's a beta) but this is making me a little
crazy. I just don't know what my pc's going to do next when I boot it up.
It often gives me "explorer" errors and then it just stares back at me with a
blank gray screen ... there's no option to shut down. I've had to powered
this machine down soooo many times ....

So ... would you like some cheese with all this whine?

Thanks for any insights.

Having Roxio 8 caused the installer pop-up problems for me, but the upgrade
was a disaster also and required a clean install. Also you may be surprised
how many of your programs won't install when you try or won't work.

I use AVG for my anti virus software and it's not compatible with Vista. It
took me two hours to delete all the files. I tried to uninstall with Vista,
but as soon as I select change ... it starts to reinstall. I can't get it to
uninstall. I then used AVG's own uninstall and it appears to almost complete
the uninstall, the vista intervenes and tells me there is a problem with the
install. So, to stop the popups, I decided to remove the files, but that was
its own nightmare. There are still 4 files that I cannot delete. Having
said that ... I thought I'd install another A/V program, but do you think I
can just save the file when I click it on the website .... no ... no ....
Vista assumes ... "install" (can't get it out of that mode ... hmmmfffff).
So, I cannot save any files to my hard drive, with Vista intervening and
trying to automatically install.

It's making me crazy. I'm helping a friend setup a new pc (win XP) and I
need to download some utilities for her new system, and I can't even do that.
Vista, again ... intervenes. The files won't show up on my drives. I don't
know how to beat this.

More cheese over here please!!!
