problems after installing SP2

After installing SP2 on reboot I can only boot into safe mode and then
restore to just after installation of SP2 in order to get up and running.
What can I do, do I need to restore to before SP2 and then forget updating?

Had a similar issue with my machine....found out that my BOIS is old enough
