Thursday, I shut the computer and let an automatic uptdate install. Friday,
after start many icons on the system tray were missing, only ZoneAlarm, AVG
Antivirus and LAN(with an "x") remains. I tried to look for the new update at
the Add/Removed programs but I could not open it, the selection keeps on
moving fast when I clicked on the icon, in fact on any control panel icon
that I clicked. I also noticed the yellow shield with red x appeared on the
system tray. I click on it and it says my firewall is off. I opened the
firewall and indeed its off. Everything on it is set to off and I cannot make
changes as sliding sliders and ticking radio buttons don't work. IE was
working fine as I was able to go to the windows update. After some work
arounds icons on the notification tray appeared, I don't how or why. I was
able to turn on the firewall this time, the defaults were already set to off.
Then I went to the Add/Remove programs, this time its also working, the last
update was KB931768.
The next morning the prblems were back but were fine after several minutes.
