Problems with Display Pictures & Emoticons

Since I upgraded to Windows Live Msgr 8.1 I cannot see my display pictures
except for sometimes when I'm in a conversation. Plus I cannot save any
emoticons and I cannot see emoticons when they are sent to me. I get file
not compatible error when trying to save a bmp or jpeg. In conversations
when they are sent to me if I right click where it should be and click add I
see the add box but then it says file not compatible. Has anyone else found
a fix for this?

Just to validate the problem, can you log in with another account and try it there?
