Every automatic update involving security downloads, of late has failed. The
error message is - error code:FFFFFB40. I have tried unsuccessfully to find
out what is causing this error.

Hi Mikeg,

Have a look at this thread:

http://groups-beta.google.com/group/...date/browse_th
read/thread/43ac19b2c06ef964/dde60939370d6dec?q=FFFFFB40&_done=%2Fgroups%3Fq
%3DFFFFFB40%26hl%3Den%26btnG%3DGoogle+Search%26&_d oneTitle=Back+to+Search&&d

The above URL will probably wrap due to its length.......either copy/paste
the entire URL into a browser window, or use the following TinyURL:

http://tinyurl.com/6jtow

Here you mean?

http://groups-beta.google.com/group/...k+to+Search&&d

Patty,

Isn't it about time that you updated your Outlook Express? <EG>

The wrapped URL problem has been fixed for over a year. ;o

<title>KB331923 - An overview of the Cumulative Update for Outlook Express 6.0 SP1</title>

And is probably included in the latest cumulative patch (a security update!)

Thank you for that, Robert. Upon reading your reply, I immediately went to
the Windows Update site, where neither of those patches was listed (nor were
they found in the Installation History). I can only assume that, since they
weren't listed tonight, they must not have been listed after my last
reformat/reinstall, and thus were never applied. I then d/loaded them from
the Download site.
