Problems with IE after installing XP & IE SP 2

I am having 2 issues with IE after installing SP2 (Windows XP and IE):

- When opening IE links in a new window whatever was in the background of
the address bar is displayed instead of an actual address

- IE closes all open IE windows at random and at the most inopportune moments

Any ideas?

Did IE behave this way prior to installing SP2 ? Have you scanned
your system for the presence of mal|spy|adware lately ? Did you do
so prior to installing SP2 ?
