Thank you for your response, but, as it did not suggest any solution, it did
not solve my problem. It appears many people are experiencing this problem.
Microsoft should address it themselves with a solution, or at least a
suggestion of some things to do to correct it. Regards, Gary Quigley

Ran some tests on a computer experiencing the IE crashes outlined in the
other post. I actually got errors in the flash8.ocx while I was uninstalling
the patches.
My test page was one with a lot of flahs content, just loading the page
would crash IE.
NOTE: the computer was windows 2000 sp4 IE 6.x SP1

I uninstalled all the patches individually in reverse order
- Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 6 Service Pack 1 (KB918899)
- Security Update for Windows 2000 (KB922616)
- Security Update for Windows 2000 (KB921883)
- Security Update for Windows 2000 (KB921398)
- Security Update for Windows 2000 (KB920958)
- Security Update for Windows 2000 (KB920683)
- Security Update for Windows 2000 (KB920670)
- Security Update for Windows 2000 (KB917008)
- Security Update for Windows 2000 (KB917422)

The errors stopped when I removed the Cumulative Security Update for
Internet Explorer 6 Service Pack 1 (KB918899)

So you can try removing that patch to see if it fixes the issue. I was
getting ntdll.dll crashing IE and sometime I got flash8.ocx crashing IE on
windows 2000 sp4 machines.

Further tests on a different computer showed that only uninstalling the IE
cumulative patch with fix the issue - Cumulative Security Update for Internet
Explorer 6 Service Pack 1 (KB918899)

Hopefully they will have an update or work-around soon.

Always reply to the original thread, instead of beginning a new thread with
the same subject, please.

Any Peoplesoft applications installed?

A hotfix has been released by Microsoft:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923762/en-us Internet Explorer 6 Service
Pack 1 unexpectedly exits after you install the

Unless I'm mistaken, the "hotfix information" on this page appears to
link to a page where one is prompted to pay for a Microsoft support
call in order to get the hotfix.

So it's OK for Microsoft to distribute updates that break our systems
for free, but they want us to $PAY$ for the correction to their
incompetence???

If they wanted us all to switch to Firefox, they couldn't have
orchestrated it better!

If I had a dime for every time I told someone that hotfixes are a free call

Well that's curious. If they're making it available for free, why not
make the hotfix available for *everyone* to download? What is the
purpose of making each and every user whose system they've screwed up
make a phone call?

Hi Kathleen
Is it correct to assume that with KB918899, the main probs are having OE 6
with SP1 and those having SP2 should be OK.
It is horrendous trying to follow these threads - I do wish posters would
put the KB number in the header.
It would make tracing problems far easier and keep replies to one subject.
Others might not then need to keep posting a seperate thread for their KB
problem.
