Hi, I installed Live messenger 8 on windows Xp home edition running IE6.
Kids have brought a webcam and want to talk to their dad.
Since then I couldnt open a new window from any link within IE6. The
complete browser locked up. Since deinstalling Live Messenger 8 my browser
works okay again.
Is there anything I could do different to get it runing without breaking my
browser?
Thanks very much (especially on behalf of the kids).
Andy

Hi Andy,

Have you installed all Hotfixes and optional Software in Windows XP Home
Edition? Which WebCam did you get? Did you check with their Support?

Hi,
The pc autodownloads all updates for XP and microsoft products etc when
available and as far as I am aware it is up to date. The webcam is a labtec
model.
Note the webcam and functionality therein functioned okay within live 8.0,
eg the kids were able to see their dad, my only problem is with my browser,
once live is running.
Am I able to install a reduced version of live messenger which wont
interfere with IE6 too much ?
I will have a look on labtecs website, I hadnt thought of that, thinking it
to be a relationship problem between IE6 and Live 8.

Thanks for your interest.

Greetings Andy,

Haven't seen that -- have you considered upgrading to IE7 after installing Messenger? Might
fix the issue for you, since it would replace anything that's broken:

Jonathan,
Thanks, but I like to keep things simple, and upgrading my browser as well
could get me into all sorts of difficulties. I also dont have an install disk
for windows as it came preinstalled on this new pc, so how would I migrate
back to IE6 if I am still having problems.

Cheers

HI Andy,

Well it's uninstallable, and you can also use System Restore.

Was just a thought though.

Jonathan,
Thanks anyway. I have just reinstalled Live 8 again, but deselected the
toolbar option to keep the install simple and touch wood my browser is
working fine.
I´m just waiting for a friend to log into messenger so I can test the webcam
again.
So fingers crossed.

Hi,

Yeah -- I'm not a big fan of the toolbar either.
