Problems install windows update

The following windows update will not install:
Security Update for Outlook Express 6 Service Pack 1 (KB897715)

I keep getting the following error:

“The version of outlook express you have installed does not match the update
you are trying to install�

I have checked and I’m currently running version 6

Is this on Windows XP? and if so, does it have Service Pack 2 ?
Find out & post back some details.

From main menu, select RUN, and type in
WINVER <Enter-key>

Write down the whole line with build & version number.

While in Outlook Express, select HELP >> About.
Write down the whole version number.
such as 6.00.2900.xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Try getting your update again, but first temporarily disable your antivirus,
and close all your running user programs, especially Outlook Express.

XP server pack 1

Version of XP: 5.1 (build 2600.xpsp2.050301-1526 : Service Pack 1)

Outlook Express: 6.00.2800.1106 (xpsp1.020828-1920).

Have tried disabling the anti-virus and firewall and made sure outlook
expres was closed down before trying to install update. Have tried install
update in Safe mode as well.

Hi, I've had the same problem but on Windows 2000.

I found that even though the installation failed, this update was still
listed under Add/Remove Programs. I removed it and installed it again from
Windows Update with no problem.

Checked add/remove prgrams there is nothing listed for this update.
