I.ve been trying to instal a newly-purchased Intel 82537 56K dial-up
modem into a computer running Windows XP Professional.
Although the installation instructions tell me it's 'XP-compatible'
and will be recognized by the Windows Plug-and-Play feature when
installed, that doesn't happen. If I manually instal it, using the
'New Hardware Wizard', then insert the CD-ROM with the modem driver,
Windows XP doesn't 'find' the driver either, though the modem
installation instructions assure me that it will.
So my question is this: is it safe to override the warning I get, when
I try to instal the software directly by path from the CD-ROM, that
'this software is unside and may cause Windows XP to become unstable
or stop working' etc, and just instal the Intel driver anyway? Do I
have to manually edit the registry if I do this?
Or is this just a 'generic warning' that the software is 'unsigned',
period?
Thanks for any help!
