problems with installing new software.

Lately, when trying to install new programs such as Adobe premier for video
editing, the installation will stop and say that i need SP2 or above. My
windows updator never tells me that an update is required and ive been to the
windows updater on the website. i scanned my pc and did the updates the site
listed. Still the same error message comes up when installing. I tried
downloading sp2 and installing it and error messages came up and i couldnt
install. any help?
