Problems installing new Windows Update software

I have a ASUS W5F running on Windows Vista Business. I have been having
problems with Windows Update. Whenever I ask Windows Update to check for
updates, it tells me that I need to install new software, and I click
install...and it doesn't seem to install because it then tells me that it
cannot check for updates. When I click try again, it tells me to install the
new Windows Update software.

Can someone help?

How to troubleshoot Windows Update, Microsoft Update, and Windows Server
Update Services installation issues:
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=906602

Start a free Windows Update support incident request:
https://support.microsoft.com/oas/de...spx?gprid=6527

Support for Windows Update:
http://support.microsoft.com/gp/wusupport

Tip: Temporarily disable real-time protection by your anti-virus and/or
anti-spyware applications (e.g., CounterSpy, Spysweeper, Spybot, AVG
Anti-Spyware) and/or any third-party firewall (e.g., ZA) before attempting
to install the update(s).

1. See the "Need more help? Tell us what problem you are having" section of
http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=ph;en-us;6527

2. You cannot install some updates or programs
http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;822798

3a. Check Windowsupdate.log (%windir%\Windowsupdate.log) for errors
associated with the download/install.

How to read the Windowsupdate.log file
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/902093

3b. Compare errors to those listed here:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/blog...showentry=1122
and/or go to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com > click on Help and Support
link in left pane > Solve problems on your own.

I got is 8007007f. I can't find this error code anywhere in my search, and
the resolution to this. Will be very helpful if someone can help!!

Codes without context are usually useless.

<cmd_output OS="XPsp2">
E:\>set /a c = 0x7F
127
E:\>net helpmsg %c%

The specified procedure could not be found.

</cmd_output>

Can you see what a useless diagnostic that is without any context?
E.g. what procedure could not be found?

BTW does Vista show the same result for net helpmsg 127 ?

Robert, I am not sure what context you need. I outlined the problem I had on
the first post. I am new to this, and am not very technical, please bear with
me. Will be helpful if you let me know what information you need.

Yeah, you are right, I did upgrade to Vista Business. Thanks for the
suggestions. Guess I am not going to resolve it if I don't go through
Microsoft!!

You could attempt what another Vista User posted prior to calling MS IF
this appears in the System Event log:

The package references are in WINDOWS\Servicing\Packages
The .dll's for Vista are:

wuapi.dll
wuaueng.dll
wucltux.dll
wudriver.dll
wups.dll
wups2.dll
wuwebv.dll

Than download the latest Version of the Windows Update Agent from the
links on this page:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/blog...showentry=1172

IF when installing the WUA you receive an message that it's already
installed, than follow the directions on the above page to install it.

Either there's a mismatch of .dll files due to the upgrade or the
installed antivirus/security software is preventing the updating of the WUA.

Was Windows/Automatic Updates working before you upgraded to Vista?
