Problems installing Security Update KB928366

Running XP; for the past 4-5 weeks, when I click on the yellow shield to
install updates, it downloads, then supposedly installs, but the yellow
shield never disappears/clears. I have gone directly to MS Update website
several times, done Express updates numerous times, rebooted numerous times,
still yellow shield. When I go to MS update site, I am directed to download
install the following: "Security Update for Microsoft. NET Framework Version
1.1 Service Pack 1 (KB928366)"
Download history shows the same update (KB928366) has been installed about 8
times in the last 4 days. I thought I was running Service Pack 2. Am
concerned that my security is not up to date.

No, the problem is a poorly written installed. Search the internet for
KB928366, and you will be inundated with posts.

There is a detailed set of instructions for fixing the problem.

I just decided to remove all of the .NET software because it really is just
an optional feature.
