I kept getting the same failure notice since I got this update on 08 Jan
2008. It caused all the updates to fail on Windows Vista 32 bit Home
Prem, however I isolated the problem update to this one by installing
each seperately unitil I was left with KB941411.
I have gone to
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/943411 and found what
appears to be the answer and will be trying it out in a moment or two.
I've copied it below for your info.
Known Issues with the Windows Sidebar Protection update
The Windows Sidebar Protection update may not uninstall if the Shared
Gadgets folder contains only the Sidebarlock.dat file.
To work around this problem, follow these steps: 1. Click Start, type
%programfiles%\Windows Sidebar\Shared Gadgets in the Start Search box,
and then click Shared Gadgets in the Programs list.
2. On the File menu, point to New, and then click Folder. Type any name
for the folder. For example, type Test for the name of the folder.
3. Try again to uninstall the Windows Sidebar Protection update.
