I am trying to install some of the Windows Updates on my computer. I keep
getting the message that "some of the updates were not installed." Generally
this is Microsoft Windows Installer 3.1. How do I get around this? I am
usiing XP.

Nan,

Click on Start > then Run > copy&paste the below into the Open: line

%windir%\kb893803v2.log

Click OK or press Enter
The log that is now open is the one generated when Windows Installer 3.1
attempts an installation.
Copy and paste the entire log into your reply, please.

Updates are not installed successfully from Windows Update, from Microsoft
Update, or by using Automatic Updates after you repair a Windows XP
installation:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/943144

NB: Also applies to clean installs, upgrade installs, and Recovery installs.

That is the whole log. It probably says that because I had to reinstall
windows XP. How do I get it to stop trying to install the update if it is
already installed?
