Problems with KB917422

The KB917422 update has been causing some of my programs not to work. I get
countless "blah.exe has caused an error in blah.exe," with the option to send
an error report. The update does not appear of my add/remove programs list
when show updates is checked. Can someone tell me of a workaround or fix?
