Problems with KB925902 and *NOT* Realtek

Hi,

Installed the KB925902 patch. Now every time I run Matlab
2007a, I get a *similar* error to the one that people are getting with the
Realtek control panel. But it is with regards to *shell32.dll* and NOT
Hhctrl.ocx:

I get the same error with Ghostscript and Miktex. I have already installed
the fix to the patch, KB935448, and that has not helped.

Any ideas?

------------------------------
startdir.EXE Illegal System DLL relocation
The system DLL user 32.dll was relocated in memory....etc.

Startdir.exe - Illegal System DLL Relocation
The system DLL user32.dll was relocated in memory. The application will not
run properly. The relocation occurred because the DLL C:\Windows\System32
\shell32.dll occupied an address range reserved for Windows system DLLs.
The vendor supplying the DLL should be contacted for a new DLL.

Do you have any third party themes or "Transitional Packs" installed?
Which version does your shell32.dll show?

I'm assuming, you're running Windows XP SP2, right?

I am running a XP SP2 and I have a crytalxp.net bricopack installed to
change the theme. Does that modify shell32.dll?

Mine shell32.dll is version 6.00.2900.3051 (xpsp_sp2_gdr.061219-0316). Is
that the right one?

It "may" have some influences, yes. You will find out if that's the
real culprit by uninstalling that Package at least temporarly.

Having a look into the Forum at
http://forum.crystalxp.net/index.php?showforum=29
confirms, that having one of those Packs installed _are_ making problems
after the necessary changes included in KB925902, which results in error
messages mentioning the "shell32.dll".

For the health of your systems please *uninstall* those Packs and be
happy with an Windows XP looking like Windows XP, which is up and
running and beeing more secure.

Freudi

Genius. Indeed, uninstalling seems to have fixed the issues.

Thanks!

You mean you have installed a "Pack" which changes the design of
Windows XP and are seeing shell32.dll errors after having KB925902
and KB935448 installed?

If true, _which_ "Pack" do you have installed?
Isn't there any information on the site available, from where you've
downloaded that "Pack" from?

Freudi
