Hi there, perhaps something on one of these links may assist you.

http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;EN-US;836928
You receive error message 0x8007007e when you try to install updates from the Windows
Update Web site

http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=831429
Windows XP stops responding when you download updates from Windows Update:
You receive the following error message: Initialization error 0x8007007e
In the Windows Update.log file in the Windows directory, you may receive a message
that is similar to the following message:
Error IUENGINE Determining machine configuration (Error 0x8007007E: The specified
module could not be found.)
Your computer may stop responding after you accept the end-user license agreement.

http://www.updatexp.com/0x8007007E.html
When using the Windows Update website you may find that the service
FAILS to update your computer and returns a "General Error" message: 0x800A138F

Thanks TaurArian, but no go...The funny part to all this is, I still recieve
Automatic Updates ...just can go to Microsoft update to look for them...I
already tried the ones you suggested (registering crucia dll's) and they
registered just fine...and I deleted and "tried" to reinstall IE, but it
won't let me because it says I have a Newer IE...so I can't do that... Then I
tried (last ditch effort) to Delete IE altogether..with the return of Windows
being unable to boot...LOL...I'm not about to put the XP installation disk in
to do a repair for something so small...I've got wayyyyyy toooo much into the
OS already as far as modifications and customizations to start all over
again...
How did I reboot after uninstalling IE??? I have complete backup IMGs of
partition C:\Primary...so I was able to quickly recover from that disaster
and put everything back the way it was within 7 minutes...so...the search
goes on...any more Ideas? LOL...I'm starting to think its the "New and
Improved" windows updating system...LOL... :-)

Hi MUff!N, seems you've tried all the usual.

This link will show you how to reinstall/repair IE (may wrap to 2 lines I'm
using the web client at the moment)
http://support.microsoft.com/default...23120121120120
How to reinstall or repair Internet Explorer and Outlook Express in Windows XP

Other things to consider -
Something could be interfering check your Firewall settings etc.

WINUP-Third-Party Products That Conflict with Windows Update
http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;241234

Have you checked recently for Malware/spyware/viruses?

Are there any further clues in the Update log in Windows

Open Internet Explorer and either type or copy and then paste this into the
Address bar: %windir%\windowsupdate.log

Good to hear you have a complete backup of your computer in case of disaster.

Thanks Kaylene... This looked the most promissing of all the fixes I already
tried...
So to sum up what I did...the first link...How to reinstall IE 6 service
pk1...
No problem with Registry editing...been in there enough that I'm not scared
to do changes (remember, Disaster backups...lol)...But...rrrr, to no
avale...Still the same Problem exsist... :-(....So, on that note, I'm going
to reinstall Partition C again from my newly made backup...
Btw, I did manage to find a work-a-round...for this problem...I downloaded a
third party Utility that does the trick! (wish windows had it...) It's called
Belarc Advisor...What it does is look over your system, compares it with
windows update's security bulleton (last one was July 12 05 I believe) and
looks for the Critical updates you have and don't have and lets you know
what's missing...then supplies the link to Microsoft Updates to download the
missing update..I now have all the Crucial & Critical Security update by
Manually downloading and installing them via this program...but...no, the
last fix you suggested didn't work...
