Hi all,

i have the Windows live messanger and a strange problem: i have a builtin
cam in my laptop. and in the audio and video setup i do see the cam picture.
NOw when i start a conversation the cam is greyed out and it looks like my
messanger doesnt know about my cam.
Sometimes i switch a few times between the standard cam and the "cam"
(always the same hardware) and then it works for one time.. but the next
time i have the same issue again and most of the time i cannot activate the
cam at all.

Any ideas about the reason ?
the cam works just fine in Skype etc..

Greetings,

It's a bug, and the workaround is exactly what you already suggested (and then it will just
work for that session).

Hi,

Go through the wizard and choose None, then go back through the wizard and choose the right
cam.

Additionally, don't use the 'Video call' but use the 'Show my webcam' option (click the
little cam icon under the display picture to quickly get to that option) on both sides and
use audio secondary.

Lame I admit, but it does the trick (or should anyway).

Hi Live Messengers

I had the same problem: webcam greyed out and only working on my side of the
video connection, but not on the other side. I solved the problem as
mentioned. Then the bug disappeared for some time. And yesterday the bug
suddenly raised up his head again. But now, the circumvention no longer
works. What is going on?
(applies to Windows XP and Windows 7, newest version. The same version on
Vista works fine at the moment). It appears like Live messenger would move
one step forward and two backwards from time to time.
