PROBLEM RESOLVED!

I uninstalled the SP3, then did some basic troubleshooting of my cd-rom
drive...it appears that the problem was in the registry files..I got an error
message when I accessed this :"_NEC NR-7800A properties (Code 39)" saying the
device driver may be corrupted or missing.

So, with that in mind I went to www.dell.com typed in the 'Code 39' which
led me to the www.microsoft.com fix titled 'Guided Help'...simple as that, it
fixed it and my cd-rom is now working like usual.

Hope this helps anyone else who may have the same problem.
